Herald ⚔️

Herald lists incoming attacks and can raise militia, move your troops out of the way (a "dodge"), cast powers, and help with colony-ship attacks.

Access: Base

Open Herald

Click the sword button in the Hub header. You can:

  • show attacks on your own cities or on friends' cities;
  • sort by arrival time or by colony ship;
  • search by city or player; and
  • use Clear finished to remove attacks that have already landed or were cancelled.

For each incoming attack you can:

  • turn militia on or off;
  • mark or unmark it as a colony ship (CS);
  • turn dodge on or off, and choose land units, naval units, or all;
  • attach a power (when Grepolis shows the attack's details); and
  • open the target planner for a CS attack.

Automatic handling

Open the Herald tab in the Hub.

  • Display attack notifications: show your incoming attacks in Grepomat.
  • Notifications of attacks from my friends: show attacks shared by friends.
  • Remove past attacks: clear finished entries automatically.
  • Militia: off, CS only, or every attack.
  • Auto-dodge: off, all attacks, or all except CS.
  • CS split strategy: return defensive troops before the CS lands and offensive troops after it (see below).
  • Troop roles: mark each unit type as defensive, offensive, or neutral.
  • Include defensive units in simulation: also consider defensive units when guessing what an attack contains. Turn this on if you need to spot units such as biremes.

For Discord alerts, use the Notifications tab.

Per-city settings

In Herald — per-city defense, any city can use the global settings or its own militia mode, auto-dodge mode, CS split strategy, and troop roles. Set a city back to Global to follow the main settings again.

How dodging works

Shortly before the attack lands, Herald sends your troops to another of your cities and calls them back so they return 10–15 seconds after the attack.

  • Land and naval units travel separately, so you never depend on having enough transport ships.
  • If several attacks arrive close together, one dodge covers all of them and the troops return after the last one.
  • If a later attack is not marked for dodging, the troops come back one second before it so they can defend.
  • Herald keeps using the same destination city. If that city cannot receive troops, it tries the next one.

If you reload Grepolis in the middle of a dodge, Herald remembers it and still calls the troops back on time. It never sends the same dodge twice.

CS split strategy

When a colony ship is coming, you usually want your defense home and your attackers away. With the split strategy:

  • defensive troops return a set number of seconds before the CS (Defensive return margin);
  • offensive troops return a set number of seconds after it (Offensive return offset); and
  • neutral troops return one second after the offensive ones.

Transport boats and colony ships count as neutral by default. Units that fit both roles count as defensive unless you change them.

A CS dodge starts about 20 seconds before impact. If there is not enough time for a defensive group to leave and come back safely, that group simply stays home. Increase the defensive margin if your connection is unreliable.

Target planner

The target button helps plan support before a CS lands and attacks after a siege starts. Always check the suggested cities, units, and timing before creating the orders.

Important

  • Guessing that an attack is a CS is an estimate. Correct the CS marker yourself when needed.
  • Herald only works while Grepolis is open. It cannot call troops back while the browser is closed.
  • A sleeping computer, a slow connection, a captcha, or Grepolis refusing an action can stop a last-second move.
